Spirals and Self-similarity

Spirals within spirals

I will never forget Prof. Phogbounds comment when I showed him this fractal ``This figure bears a striking resemblance to a self-similar object`` His expertise was profound. I remember asking him questions on nomenclature. ``Professor are these structures called embedded recursive spirals?" His educated  reply "No they are called fairy dust curly-swirlies" has remained with me all these years. Prof. Phineas T. Phogbound, one of the major influences in my life.

When I first saw this I thought of a monster from some grade B movie-" Attack of the Electricity Monster" perhaps and this was its footprint. How good is modern psychiatry and what can be learned about personality from the projected meaning given to abstract patterns like clouds and fractals?
